Welcome to the Good Shepherd Counselor's Page
Welcome to the 2008-2009 Good Shepherd School Counseling Web page!
This web page is intended to give everyone information about the counseling department and your school counselor, me, Mrs. Pam Spaulding. I hope it helps to make my role here on campus more helpful to you all. Please see the topics (click on the tabs above) for detailed information about me, my role here, the services provided, some online resources and how to contact me. I look forward to getting to know everyone this year and helping to make it the best possible school year for us all.
How Does Counseling Work?
Counseling services are available to every student of GSS. Each student is unique and so are their educational and personal experiences. Often students have little or no control over these issues. To name a few, these concerns may consist of bullying, stress, loss, loneliness, underachievement, divorce, relocation, low self esteem. peer pressure and peer relationships. Everyone is welcomed to my counseling office. See "Services" tab on this site to better understand some of the services provided. Students, teachers and parents are all welcome to refer a child. Parents may fill out a request for services form, talk to me in person when we see each other on campus, email me or phone the front office to contact me (see contact tab on this site). Permission forms and counseling request forms will be available in the front office. Teachers may refer a student. Students may approach me during the school day or if they prefer they can fill out a request for services form or just leave me a note requesting to talk with me in the new “Counselors Mail Box” located in the Main Office.
Parents will always be notified before any individual or group counseling has started with your child. A form will need to be signed by a parent prior to receiving counseling services of any kind.
I always prefer and eagerly welcome frequent communication with teachers, family and loved ones.
According to the American School Counselor Association (ASCA), "Elementary school counselors are professionals with a mental health perspective who understand and respond to the challenges presented by today's diverse student population. Elementary school counselors don't work in isolation; rather they are integral to the total educational program."
